Emily Alexandra Philpot Great Great Granddaughter of Private Reuben Jasper Philpot, Company G, 2nd Mississippi Cavalry. General Samuel J. Gholson described this regiment as
tolerably well mounted and armed with shotguns. Commanded by Captain George Isbell, Company G and the rest of the 2nd Mississippi Cavalry, fought in numerous battles in Mississippi and
Tennessee and were assigned by General Nathan B. Forrest to Richardson's Brigade of Forrest's Cavalry in 1864. In April, 1865, the remaining men of the regiment were assigned to Armstrong's
Brigade and were distinguished for gallantry in the defense of Selma Alabama. Many were killed, wounded, and made prisoners when the city fell into Union control. The prisoners taken were paroled on
May 4, 1865.
Emily is a student at The Woodlands High School and is in her third year of Varsity Choir. She is active in her church with the worship band and is also involved with a competitive
hip hop team called the beatmasters. Emily is the daughter of Michael Kieth Philpot and Linda Lawson Philpot. She is the granddaughter of William Nelson Philpot, Doris Kinkade Philpot,
Helen Krenshaw Lawson and Jack Everett Lawson
