Became President of Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas (now Texas A&M University) 1891
Elected Commander, Texas Division, United Confederate Veterans 1893
Died suddenly at his home in College Station on Jan. 3, 1898
Buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Waco, Texas.
